Downtown Santa Monica, Inc. is a non-profit organization that works with the City of Santa Monica to manage services and operations in Downtown Santa Monica while promoting economic stability, growth and community life within it’s neighborhood. As one of the leading BIDs in the country, Downtown Santa Monica generated more than $1 billion in sales tax revenue for the city.

The leadership team at Downtown Santa Monica wanted to completely revamp their existing Salesforce CRM and customize it to support all operations including tracking and managing of properties, vacancies, public assets, businesses, residents, etc.






Saleforce Implementation


  • DSM’s Salesforce CRM was not customized for the specific needs of an improvement district, which led to staff abandoning the system.
  • Data in Salesforce was incomplete and outdated, which made the DSM revert back to operating out of spreadsheets.
  • DSM was unable to effectively find and report on data – properties, businesses, residents, vacancies and tenants in the market.


Reconfigured and customized Salesforce to efficiently manage properties, residents, prospective tenants, property vacancies etc.

Imported two years’ worth of assessment data for all Properties / Buildings into Salesforce.

Built Salesforce reports and dashboards to give DSM leadership a 360 degree view of operations.

Integrated Salesforce with staff email inboxes to ensure that contacts are up-to-date and necessary email activity is tracked in Salesforce.


DSM’s Salesforce CRM now supports the day-to-day operations of all departments. Salesforce is the “source of truth” for information across all departments with up-to-date data on properties, ownership, tenant businesses, prospective tenants, contacts, etc.

Cube84 provided customized end user training that led to a significant increase in user adoption of Salesforce by the DSM team.

DSM today has a 360 degree view of all BID properties and stakeholders, which will lead to more Opportunities in economic development (renewals, recruiting new retail, etc.)

With time and efficiency gains, DSM staff are able to focus on member engagement, strategic communications, and growing program goals.

DSM is able to leverage Salesforce capabilities to maintain good data, collect valuable metrics and track progress towards set goals.
